EQUIPMW

Why EQUIP ministry wives?

EQUIP ministry wives aims to encourage ministry wives from across Australia serving in all denominations and ministries.

We believe ministry wives play a vital part in God's kingdom, not only because of the way they use their gifts to serve Christ, but chiefly because they are the main encourager of their husbands.

We consider it a privilege to annually gather ministry wives for teaching, encouragement and networking. It's a fantastic day!

Every ministry wife is welcome, whether your husband is serving in a mainline denomination, school, university, workplace or para-church organisation. And at every stage of development, from ministry training (like MTS or Metro), to theological college, to serving in ministry.

2014 Theme: The S Word

Sex is an area of 21st century life that causes much angst and confusion. Many people in ministry feel an expectation to “have it all together” and know all the answers when it comes to sex. The unique challenges of ministry, combined with just being human, means this is often far from reality. Too often we don't know what’s normal, or even who to talk to about sex-related issues. Fortunately, God’s Word bears on every aspect of life and sex is no exception. Jeff and Carmelina Read will undress the issues facing Ministry Wives in the bedroom. Who knows, it may well revolutionise your marriage!

Date: Saturday 22nd March, 2014, 9am-4pm

2014 Speakers

Jeff Read

For the last 15 years, Jeff's been ministering at Chatswood Presbyterian Church. He met Carmelina at university in fourth year when he finally discovered the law library!  Although he grew up in an atheistic family with a Jewish background, he came to put his faith in Jesus at university when he was challenged to look at the evidence for the resurrection.  It was this life changing event that led him to give up working in law to study at Moore College and be trained to teach the Bible so that others can know Jesus and have their lives shaped by Him.

At the age of 40, Jeff decided to learn the guitar.  Now he frustrates his 4 children with endless repetitions of the latest piece he's learning.  He enjoys any kind of exercise that involves eating food, sleeping and laughing; especially if it doesn't involve standing up or moving!

Carmelina Read

Carmelina is an engaging speaker who shares honestly about her life and struggles as a Christian woman.  She ministers with her husband Jeff at Chatswood Presbyterian Church.  She never ceases to be amazed that she grew up in an Italian Catholic family and God used a Jordanian Baptist friend in primary school to introduce her to the Jesus who saves us by grace alone!

After working as a lawyer, Carmelina headed off to train at Moore Theological College and currently lectures part time at the ministry Training For Women course at the Presbyterian Theological Centre.  She loves the way being around the same people for years give us opportunity to teach God's Word and see God use it to renovate their lives.  That's the highlight of the last 15 years ministering alongside Jeff at Chatswood Presbyterian Church.

Carmelina says that in almost 21 years of marriage, God has had to work hard at renovating her, especially on the topic of sex!  Whilst she enjoys reading, great coffee (even if old age is forcing her to drink decaf!), jogging and cooking with her four primary school-aged children, Carmelina loves nothing better than an afternoon with women talking about anything and everything, especially Jesus.
