Surprises in Luke- Daily Reading, Luke 1

I find it surprising that there are 2 miracle births in Luke's opening. Why such a different opening to the other gospels? Why so many parallels between John and Jesus? (See 7:18-35; 9:7-9) http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke1&version=NIV
