Walk His Way | Andrew Shead

For many, the book of Psalms is their favourite part of Scripture. This book is a great choice if you want to deepen your engagement with it. In the book Shead focuses in on eight psalms in great detail. But he also has a larger goal in mind. We learn about the overall story and structure to the book of Psalms, we get pointers on reading the poetry of the psalms well and we see how the way the psalms meditate on Scripture help us see prophecy that points to Christ.

This book began its life as some talks given at a missionary conference in 2022. This is very evident in the book, as each chapter encouraged, challenged and stirred me into seeking to apply what I had learned in my own walk with Christ. I found the chapter on Psalm 91 a particular highlight. Shead exhorts the reader to nurture their confidence in God and act out of that confidence. With God as our fortress, we can live out the life of a protected person.

Reading this book has given me a much deeper appreciation of the way the whole book of Psalms hangs together. As I went deep with the author into particular psalms, I was encouraged to slow down my reading and really savour the rich meal that each psalm provides. This book is a wonderful read that helps us to know and love God more deeply and be encouraged to walk his way more faithfully.
