When the Noise Won’t Stop | Paul Grimmond

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus." (Phil 4:6-7)

Ask any Christian suffering from anxiety, and we can quote this well-known nugget of a Bible verse to you word for word. Yet this verse can often feel more anxiety-inducing than comforting. Grimmond helps us see that rather than it standing over us with a frown and condemning our lack of faith, it is more akin to the gentle words that a mother might use with her young child after a nightmare. This is one of the many things in this book that will resonate with you if you’ve ever wondered whether God is angry or disappointed in you because of your anxiety.

Grimmond is incredibly gentle and down-to-earth as he shares his own experiences and presents us with a biblical picture of the relationship between anxiety, sin, and the gospel with great clarity and pastoral care. This book is a soothing balm to the soul for anyone who struggles with anxiety. You won't be comfortable or agree with all of it, and you're not meant to. Anxiety isn't the same experience for everyone. We are not just sufferers but also sinners. Our end goal as God’s children is still holiness so this book encourages us to keep pursuing Christlikeness while living with anxiety in a fallen world.

This book is recommended for any Christians dealing with the noise that won’t stop, but also for anyone who cares for or ministers to people dealing with anxiety. It'll give you insights into some of the realities of living with anxiety and offer gospel hope in response.
