Motherhood by Jocelyn Loane

Between juggling daily tasks and trying to raise my three young kids, finding time and mental energy to read anything seems like an impossible task. On top of that, there is a lot of parenting advice and philosophies out there. I am often overwhelmed by the constant barrage, and then I feel the pressure to “get it right”. However, “Motherhood” by Jocelyn Loane is a refreshing exception and is worth the effort of reading amongst the daily chaos.

This book is a warm, honest exploration of the wonderful privilege and challenge of Christian motherhood. It is written with humility and sincerity, sharing not just principles that are faithful to the Bible, but also real, practical examples on how the gospel transforms our mothering. Jocelyn’s writing is approachable and free from judgement, offering encouragement and hope while also being unafraid to challenge you on your own heart and priorities.

“Motherhood” is divided into easy-to-read chapters, with questions at the end of each chapter designed to help us reflect or discuss with others. I love that Jocelyn emphasises how the gospel shapes our mothering; reminding us that it’s not about our perfection, but how Jesus’ perfection is sufficient. Reading this book has encouraged me to hold onto the gospel in times when I am running on empty, or feeling like I’m failing my kids.

“Motherhood" by Jocelyn Loane is a timely, grace-filled reminder to keep our hearts focused on Jesus amid our daily parenting struggles. It doesn’t offer easy answers or sugarcoat the challenges but instead points to the goodness and wisdom of God in his word. If you’re a Christian mother looking for encouragement, practical wisdom and a reminder of the grace that sustains us, this book is a must-read! And since we are part of God’s family, everyone will benefit from reading this book as we walk alongside each other.
