The Quiet Time Kickstart by Rachel Jones
A consistent Bible reading plan can sometimes feel daunting. Maybe you’ve never had a Bible reading plan, or it seems far too intimidating (where to start in this big book?!), or maybe you’ve read the Bible for years but you’re out of routine. That’s where this little gem of a book comes in.
Like a (gentle) training buddy who gets you moving on cold mornings, “The Quiet Time Kickstart” is your daily companion for getting back into God’s word, or discovering a routine for the very first time. Over six weeks, Rachel takes you through a structured and doable journey, starting with just a couple of verses a day in 1 Thessalonians. Each day follows a familiar rhythm; pray, read, reflect, pray. The format builds gradually; by week two you’re reading a little more, and by the end you’re confidently applying Bible reading tools to the Gospel of Mark.
What makes this book stand out is its simplicity and encouragement. Rachel provides gentle guidance as we move through 1 and 2 Thessalonians and then the Old Testament book of Ruth. Along the way, she introduces basic but foundational skills like asking observation and interpretation questions, helping us not just to read, but to understand. She even drops in helpful notes about biblical theology — how each passage fits into the bigger picture of God’s story. Weekends are left open for rest, catch-up, or following along with your church’s current Bible series, but never to fear, Rachel has given us some helpful questions to keep us going. Before you know it, you’re at week 6 with your cup of coffee applying the what, where and why questions which you now know like the back of your hand. And with Rachel’s recommended bible reading plan, you’re ready to soar like an eagle through the rest of Mark.
I especially love how personal the book feels. Some days Rachel writes a prayer for you, other days she simply says, "You know what to do." It feels like reading the Bible alongside a friend—one who knows how to encourage without overwhelming you. Her handwritten notes offer extra resources, tips, and real-life encouragement (like setting your alarm 5 minutes earlier as the passages grow longer— how helpful!).
“The Quiet Time Kickstart” is lightweight, simply designed, and small enough to tuck into a handbag — ready for your quiet time in a café, office, or cozy corner at home. Whether you’re starting from scratch or need a fresh rhythm, this book is a wonderful gift to your soul, and maybe one for a friend too. Get yours today!
