The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis is a literary giant. Best known today for “The Narnia Chronicles”, he also wrote for adults on Christian themes. Lewis wrote “The Screwtape Letters” against the backdrop of WWII, initially as a serialised novel in a weekly religious newspaper. It has since become a classic.

The Lord of Psalm 23 by David Gibson

For many, Psalm 23 is the most familiar chapter in the Bible. As a child my mum helped me memorise and record it on a cassette player. However, when I read David Gibson’s book, “The Lord of Psalm 23”, the psalm took on new meaning for me. Through Gibson’s book I came to appreciate the rich scriptural theme of God dwelling with his people that is both poetically described in the psalm and in all of Scripture.

Motherhood by Jocelyn Loane

Between juggling daily tasks and trying to raise my three young kids, finding time and mental energy to read anything seems like an impossible task. On top of that, there is a lot of parenting advice and philosophies out there. I am often overwhelmed by the constant barrage, and then I feel the pressure to “get it right”. However, “Motherhood” by Jocelyn Loane is a refreshing exception and is worth the effort of reading amongst the daily chaos.

We both remember the relief when Christian’s burden falls off at the cross. It was a joy to share that with our own young kids through reading “Little Pilgrim’s Progress” with them.

The Air We Breathe by Glen Scrivener

I am a bit of a goldfish, often just existing and staring into space, oblivious to the culture that I live in. Glen Scrievener addresses my goldfish issue as universal; “goldfish don’t see water…and Christianity is the water in which you swim.” (Scrivener, 2022, 11). This engaging book has helped me to recognise how Christianity has impacted the values our society holds dear.

Made in Our Image by Stephen Driscoll

Whether the idea of  artificial intelligence (AI) is daunting for you or you’re well versed in “grokking” and “neural networks” (neither of which I’d understood before picking up this book!) Stephen Driscoll’s “Made in Our Image” is well worth a read.

A Foot in Two Worlds by John Chapman

The longer I’ve been a Christian, the more I find that following Jesus isn’t comfortable. In a world that urges us to chase our dreams and be true to ourselves, Jesus calls us instead to a life of self-sacrifice and continual repentance.

A.S.K. Real World Questions / Real Word Answers by David Robertson

Can Christians be cool? Surely the Bible can’t give me advice about dating? Am I allowed to ask about suicide? Will my pet be in heaven? Am I a Christian just because I was born in Australia? Can Christians be rich and famous? How should I use the internet?
